Personal Preparation Appearance Appearance can be argued as the single most significant predictor of success Out of shape – don’t blame the Holidays Louie, you were fat in October Out of uniform- Louie shops at the recycle bin

Preparation Knowledge of the game Out of information- Test- Louie does the first 50 questions- Joey the fish does the last 50 Still using 2010 rule book

Rules Knowledge Flat out wrong –Louie doesn’t know the rule-- Followed by: Bluff and bluster -- Louie takes charge-- Followed by: Pepper tester -- Louie proves he knows the rules -- Followed by: Confusion, contested calls, on field incidents

Preparation Louie--Fat, sloppy and ignorant is no way to ref a lacrosse game

Awareness Awareness and knowledge of the game What rules are we playing? When does the game start? Wow I did not expect that! Wow, they are playing rough. Is this a big game?

Awareness Injured player- What would Louie do? 1. Physically check the player out and tell people what to do. 2. Laugh and joke with crew. 3. Call player a sissy or a baby. 4. Say aloud ”this is going to cut into our postgame drinking.” 5. Stand back, observe and say nothing.

Awareness During the game what is on Louie’s mind? 1. Where is ball-where is it going? 2. Where is partner-what is he doing? 3. Clock management 4. Sideline management 5. None of the above

Attitude Coaches, players and parents are ruining the game The first couple of weeks Louie is getting the rust off Rest of the season Louie is burnt out Louie hates games like this Just give Louie his money

Mechanics Out of position – Louie can’t, won’t move Out on an island – you are on your own Out of touch with modern game – lacrosse is lacrosse, still use a ball and stick Your mechanics make me work too much- Louie just wants to ref and get paid.
