WHAT IS IMPRESSIONISM? Impressionism is a style of painting that originated in Paris France in the 19 th century. It was considered the first modern art movement, breaking free from traditional European painting.

CHARACTERISTICS Impressionism was a style of representational art that did not rely on realism. They used small, quicker brush strokes to quickly capture the essence of the subject. Used a lighter pallet with vibrant colors.
