ACC - DUAL CREDIT CLASSES February 3, 2016 Presented by: Trisha Uhler Dual Credit Coordinator
2
WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT? Dual Credit is a program where students can take college classes while they are still in high school. Dual credit classes are taught by ACC instructors. Students can take ACC classes at Anderson, at an ACC campus, or online. Students can take up to 12 classes* for free (just buy books). Students can begin taking dual credit classes their freshman year of high school. There is no longer a limit on how many classes a student can take each semester. Most colleges accept dual credit courses; however, it is up to the college as to what they will accept and what credit they will count it as. Most colleges do not count the grades into the student’s GPA; however, this is up to the college. *In order to qualify for free tuition, the class must be part of ACC’s core curriculum requirements. For information about core curriculum classes, go to http://www.austincc.edu/degrees-and-certificates/explore-educational-choices/university-transfer-and-core-curriculum/choose-core- curriculum-classes

WHO CAN TAKE DUAL CREDIT? Any student in high school can take dual credit courses. However, before taking a college course, the student must show that he/she is ready for college level instruction in that subject. We offer some dual credit classes at Anderson. They are mostly for juniors and seniors. Students can take courses at an ACC campus during the summer, in the evenings or weekends, or online.

THINGS TO REMEMBER ACC classes at Anderson are limited and are on a first come, first served basis. Students need to put the ACC class on their course request, but also put a back in case they do not get into the class. ACC classes are taught by ACC professors. ACC instructors do not discuss grades, attendance or anything else with parents. ACC grades go on the student’s high school (if applicable) and college transcript. It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw if needed. If the class is not on the student’s schedule in the fall, it is the student’s responsibility to contact their counselor for a schedule change.
