Muleteer: A Victim of the Erruption of Vesuvius A cast of the 'muleteer', a victim of the eruption of Vesuvius which completely covered Pompeii in 79 CE. The poisonous and super-heated gas cloud which struck Pompeii following the initial ash fall-out asphyxiated and baked any remaining people in the town. This victim was discovered near a skeleton of a mule under a porticoe (porch leading to entrance) of the Palaestra. Muleteer (is a person who drives mules) Original image by Dennis Jarvis.
