TOOLS When making an Architectural Model, we utilize the following instruments Exacto Knives Cutting Boards A Straight Edge

MATERIALS Models are often made from materials such as Chipboard Corrugated Cardboard Plastic (Styrene/Polyethelene) Cardstock

PROPER USE OF THE TOOLS When utilizing an Exacto Knife, start off by holding the knife like a pencil.

PROPER USE OF THE TOOLS Place your middle finger along the side of the blade.

PROPER USE OF THE TOOLS This is an alternative way of holding the Exacto knife.

PROPER USE OF THE TOOLS Push the blade against your straight edge with your middle finger and as you cut to create straight cuts.

TYPES OF INCISIONS Cuts: Pulling the blade completely through the entire thickness of the material. Scores: Pulling the blade through part of the material thickness in order to fold the faces of the model.

BUILDING THE MODEL As your cut your model material, you must keep the following in mind: The dimensions of your building The sharpness of your blade Locations where the material should be cut vs scored The type of material and its thickness Locations where the model will be glued
