Loss Of By Nicole Stepak Mr. Dias – Period 5 http://blogcritics.org/culture/article/faith-vs-belief/

We all have some sort of faith in us There is always some sort of faith in us In a religion/God In a sports team In other people In ourselves http://www.hanselman.com/blog/IsRootingForVisualBasicLikeRootingForTheRedSox.aspx Serg15.tumblr.com

Elie had faith in God and his Jewish religion – “I was twelve. I believed profoundly. During the days I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the Synagogue to weep over the destruction of the Temple.” –Pg 1 Elie had faith in Mosche the Beadle – “And throughout those evenings a conviction grew in me that Moshe the Beadle would draw me with him into eternity, into that time where question and answer would become one.” –Pg 3 We all have some sort of faith in us http://www.coloringpages365.com/tag/cross-coloring-pages

Our faith can fade if we don’t have full confidence in something If you are not fully confident in something your are doing then your faith can start to dwindle If you don’t understand a topic in school then you won’t have faith in yourself while taking a test on it When you don’t have faith you are left with a discouraged feeling http://fullymutated.blogspot.com/2010/10/sundays-with-karen-last-one.html Flickr.com

Elie lost his faith in Mosche the Beadle when he didn’t feel confident that what he was saying was true – “’Jews listen to me. It’s all I ask of you. I don’t want money or pity. Only listen to me,’ he would cry between prayers at dusk and the evening prayers. I did not believe him myself.” –Pg 5 Ironic because Mosche the Beadle taught Elie so much about his own faith Our faith can fade if we don’t have full confidence in something http://redredapples.wordpress.com/2011/06/19/how-to-succeed- when-we-fail-at-love/

Loss of faith is common Eventually, everybody loses their faith in something Religion School People Etc. Elie lost his faith in God “’What are you, My God,’ I thought angrily, ‘compared to this afflicted crowd, proclaiming to You their faith, their anger, their revolt? What does Your greatness mean, Lord of the universe, in the face of all this weakness, this decomposition, and this decay? Why do You still trouble their sick minds, their crippled bodies?’” –Pg 63 “This day I had ceased to plead. I was no longer capable of lamentation. On the contrary, I felt very strong. I was the accuser, God the accused.” –Pg 65 http://violetsun.wordpress. com/2007/09/27/why- unitarianism-may-prevent- christianitys-extinction/

Elie lost his faith in God (continued) – “I did not fast, mainly because my father had forbidden me to do so. But further, there was no longer any reason why I should fast. I no longer accepted God’s silence. As I swallowed my bowl of soup, I saw in the gesture an act of rebellion and protest against Him.” –Pg 66 If there is a God how could he let such terrible things happen all around us? – “I’ve got eyes, too, and I can see what they’re doing here. Where is the divine mercy? Where is God? How can I believe, how could anyone believe, in this merciful God?” –Pg 73 Loss of faith is common http://guide.sacbee.com/2010/06/17/4251/the-many-faces-of-genocide.html

If there is a God how could he let such terrible things happen all around us? (continued) – “’What are you my God,’ I thought angrily, ‘compared to this afflicted crowd, proclaiming to You their faith, their anger, their revolt? What does Your goodness mean, Lord of the universe, in the face of all this weakness, this decomposition, and this decay? Why do You still trouble their sick minds, their crippled bodies?’” –Page 63 Loss of faith is common http://www.holocaustpictures.org/

If there is a God how could he let such terrible things happen all around us? (continued) “Why, but why should I bless Him? In every fiber I rebelled. Because He had had thousands of children burned in his pits? Because he kept six crematories working night and day, on Sundays and feast days? Because in His great might he had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna, and so many factories of death? How could I say to Him: ‘Blessed are Thou, Eternal, Master of the Universe, who chose us from among the races to be tortured day and night, to see our fathers, our mothers, our brothers end in the crematory? Praised be Thy Holy Name, Thou who hast chosen us to be butchered on Thine altar?’” –Page 64 Loss of faith is common Callingforjustice.tumblr.com

Our faith is never completely gone We always have a little bit of faith left inside of us We are constantly believing in one thing or another Elie still had some faith left “They gave us our evening meal, a very thick soup, but no one touched it. We wanted to wait until after prayers.” –Pg 63 Still wanted to wait to pray before eating even though he was starving “And, in spite of myself, a prayer rose in my heart, to that God in whom I no longer believed.” –Pg 87 He may not believe in God but he acknowledges God’s presence and prays to him still Pokojowy.tumblr.com
