Patient Safety If a home care aide feels that some sort of abuse is happing in the patient’s home, the first step is to talk to a supervisor. In most cases, the local Adult Protective Services (APS) department will be called. For the safety of your patient, it is important to let people who are trained in these matters deal with it appropriately. 27 Revised

As a home care aide, you will have many opportunities to assist your patient with living in a safe environment. If you ever have concerns regarding any part of your patient’s safety, communicate openly with your supervisor so that you are able to deliver the safest, most effective care possible. 28 Revised
