 Celtic Tiger came from property investments  Internet emerged around same time  With increase in cash, Irish citizens bought technology, but did not know how it was created  Even with increase of technology use, Ireland lagged behind other countries in use  After collapse, Ireland decided to become a creator of technology instead of a user

 1. Have education focused on technology  2. Make products to benefit Ireland  3. Attract foreign companies to work in/with Ireland

 Biggest problem currently for Ireland  College students taking computer science have biggest dropout rate, engineering also has numerous dropouts, both due to difficulty of math  May be because technology that is used to benefit education is behind  Science has highest graduate rate in EU

 Information-communication technology- usage of telecommunications to convey information (Internet, Youtube, Facebook)  Europe lags behind rest of world in ICT  Big players in Ireland ICT Intel Analog Devices BV Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs

 Providing information technology (IT) services over the Internet to save costs and energy  Major players in cloud computing Dell Microsoft Google HP  1.2 million Euro research grant to work on cloud architecture, management, research, and security

 Be an intermediary between the west (USA, Europe) and the East (Asia)  Signed science and tech memorandum of understanding with China  Already have several USA companies with offices in Ireland  Number one in Europe and number two in world for after tax costs due to low 12.5% corporate tax rate  Plenty of buildings to sell after building boom

 Lack of jobs in tech sectors  If filled with foreigners who know technology, where would that leave the current Irish people?  Can revive Celtic Tiger, but may lead Ireland back to where it started once technology boom ends
