Map of Adventure Island
3
Banana Forest We gather food and hunt here. Wood from the trees is used to produce goods. Mount Shark We live in caves in the mountains. We also store food in cold caves near the top. Lake Adventure This is a freshwater lake, which has a stream that leads to the mountains. Tour the Island
4
Economic Plan Survival and economic equity are our two main goals Goods will be evenly distributed depending on family size and health conditions Food, water, clothing, shelter, & medical treatment are guaranteed for all People can apply for jobs, but the Council ultimately decides who works what job There is no form of money, because everything is equally distributed Jobs include: Doctor Hunter Cook Food Gatherer Craftsman Resource control Council Member Teacher
5
Our Economy Socialist System Mixed Economy The 4 Council members essentially control the resources, because they decide how to distribute them Decisions are voted on by the people, but the Council decides what gets voted on Decisions are made to benefit everyone as a whole, not the individual Mainly command – government controls goods, services, & housing Partly free market – people elect council members & vote on all decisions
6
Land, Labor, & Capital Land – forests, wind, sun, mountain, ocean, fresh water lake, goats, bananas, fish, pineapples, oranges, nuts, coconuts, crabs, & birds Labor –people who hunt, perform medical treatment, basket weave, care for forests, gather food, cook, & keep order Capital – baskets, spears, knives, pots, pans, & eating utensils
7
Government - 4 Council members elected by everyone on Adventure Island - Council members distribute goods, conduct votes, and keep peace on the island - - Elections for Council members are held every 2 years - - There are sub-committees, and the council appoints a leader for each sub-committee - Sub-committees include medical team, resource conservation committee, food production and conservation, etc. - - All decisions are voted on by everyone on Adventure Island - - Voting is conducted by the Council members until a majority vote is reached Council Members

Opportunity Cost Goal: to make sure everyone is well fed with goat meat We send the majority of our people hunting for goats Our opportunity cost is that few people are sent fishing We hunt more goat meat, but lose the opportunity to catch more fish
9
Problem: Consumption and Population You notice that your natural resources are becoming overused and studies indicate that your society is consuming more than can be sustained in the long term. Do you consider the needs of the future generations? How do you deal with a growing population and the over consumptive habits of your society? Future generations will be considered Replenish resources with our resource conservation team who plants trees and monitors hunting Resource conservation team also searches for new, more effective ways to use resources Council distributes goods and food, so they only allot how much is necessary We will limit consumption, so we can save for future Every week, excess food and goods are saved for emergencies and future generations
10
Other problems we faced: How should the goods be distributed? We decided that everything should be equally distributed for maximum survival What form of government should we create? We felt that the mixed economy (mainly command) would work best in our situation, because everyone would be provided for Where will be store food and resources? We decided that food and sources would could be properly stored high in our mountain tops Who will settle disputes? The 4 Council members ultimately settle disputes by conducting a vote
11
Two of our major resources for food are mountain goat meat and bananas. As we gather more bananas, we hunt less goats. As we hunt more goats, we gather less bananas.
