Types of Injections Subcutaneous – Administered in the layer of skin directly below the dermis and epidermis SC, SQ, sub-cu, sub-Q or subcut. Subcut is the preferred abbreviation for patient safety

Preparing the Medication 1. Determine what type of injection you are giving 2. Assemble the medication and needle. 1. Remove the needle cover. 2. Insert the syringe needle into the rubber center on the top of the medicine bottle. 3. Pull the plunger back to a mark at the prescribed amount of medication. 4. Inspect the medication in the syringe for air bubbles 5. Push the plunger until the air bubbles are removed.

Preparing the Medication 3. Determine the injection site 4. Insert the needle quickly and carefully at the proper angle 5. Inject the medicine into the patient. ○ Push the plunger down until all of the fluid has been released. 6. Remove the needle quickly
