2 Physical Fitness Is defined as “ a set of attributes that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity.”

3 Components of Fitness Flexibility Muscular Endurance Cardiorespiratory Endurance Muscular Strength Body Composition

4 Flexibility The range of motion around a joint Examples: basic stretching or swimming

5 Muscular Endurance The ability of the muscle to continue to perform without fatigue Examples: walking, jogging, dancing

6 Cardiorespiratory Endurance The ability of the body’s circulatory and respiratory systems to supply fuel during sustained physical activity. Examples: Bicycling, walking, swimming

7 Muscular Strength The ability of the muscle to exert force during an activity Example: Lifting Weights

8 Body Composition Refers to the relative amount of muscle, fat, bone and other vital parts of the body

9 Benefits of Fitness Testing To identify weaknesses and strengths by comparing test results to other athletes or similar population group To monitor progress To provide incentives Talent identification
