(Theory of evolution) Plants and animals reached their present state through a process of “natural selection” in which only the fittest survived. This theory was adapted into the theory of Occurred through competition in which the weak fell and the strong forged ahead.

Many robber barons who embraced Social Darwinism, also supported the spirit of charity. They believed that the more fortunate should give back to society to benefit the public at large. Carnegie, Rockefeller, and other robber barons supported the arts, education, culture, public works, and established charitable foundations.
