1 Active Screening – Appointments Ask if patient has fever; new onset of cough; shortness of breath; diarrhea; new rash; exposure to chickenpox, measles or shingles. Check if appointment can be rescheduled for when they feel better. If not, try to schedule them for the end of the day.

2 Active Screening in Clinic Encourage ALL patients and families to do hand hygiene. Ask if patient has fever; new onset of cough; shortness of breath; diarrhea; new rash; exposure to chickenpox, measles or shingles. If yes to any of these, separate from other patients in the clinic and place in a private room. If the patient has upper respiratory tract symptoms, ask them (and the family) to do hand hygiene and place a mask on the patient.
