Unit 2: A Water World Unit 2

Essential Questions “How is water uniquely important to the presence of life on Earth?” “What are the effects of abiotic factors on marine organisms?” Main

Water World 2/23/2016 Objectives: Consider your knowledge of water Describe the locations of water Explain the issues with water usage Analyze the water cycle Focus:What do you know about water? Could this world ever be totally covered in water, become a real water world? water worldwater world Read:The Potential Role of the Oceans in Earth’s Climate Pretest:Water World Assemble:Unit 2 Map your H-Drive Unit 2 folder

Sink or Swim Obtain the water graphic and complete with pencil, colored or otherwise. Look through the vocabulary in the Unit 2 Map If you know the word, put it above the water If you have heard the word and have a little idea about it, put it at the water line If you have no idea, put it under water Submit today

The Water Planet: Water and Perspective The Water Planet: Water and Perspective Read The Water Planet & The Cycle of Water on pages 6-2 to 6-4 Write at least 6 bullet points each about water from the perspective of humans, sea-life and a water molecule

Perspective of Water based on Carbon Dioxide Water from the perspective of carbon dioxide  Carbon dioxide joins water increasingly was the temperature of water cools.  Carbon dioxide leaves water and joins the atmosphere as the temperature of water rises.  Carbon dioxide joins water and combines with it during photosynthesis in a plant using the energy of sunlight.

Water World Submit:Introduction to Water World Assignments Pretest, Sink or Swim, Water and Perspective Extended Homework: Read chapter 6 carefully from pages 6-5 t0 6-34. Answer the Study Questions 6-4, 6-9, 6-23, and 6-30. Due Friday, 2/26

Water World 2/24/2016

Objectives: Describe the chemical structure of water Objectives: Describe the chemical structure of water List the effects of the chemical structure of water Focus:What are the effects of the chemical structure of water? Lab:Water, More Than Just Wet, It’s Unique Submit:The Endless Voyage: It’s In the Water Due Tomorrow:Chapter 6 Study Questions Water World 2/25-26/2016

Lab Activity “Water, More Than Just Wet, It’s Unique o Obtain the lab packet & work as partners o Read the Introduction, Research Questions, Literature Review and Vocabulary o Answer questions 1-7 o Randomly, go to each station as available o At each station perform the activity as directed and modified at stations 3, 6 and 8. Watch the videos to complete station 9 o Clean Up at each station as you finish o Relate the properties to the structure of water Return the Lab Activity Manual Water Properties Lab

Objectives: Describe the chemical structure of water List the effects of the chemical structure of water Lab:Unique Properties of Water complete the stations and the analysis – due Monday Submit:Chapter 6 Study Questions Water World 2/26/2016

Objectives: Relate the chemistry of water to its properties Determine your understanding of water chemistry and its properties Complete & Submit:Unique Properties of Water Lab Revise:Unique Properties of Water Lab (submit corrected & complete tomorrow) Review:The Nature of Water Part 1 Assignment:Seawater Analysis Water World 2/29/2016

Revise:Unique Properties of Water Lab Review your observations. Rewrite your analysis answers based on the observations. Points based on your answers!! Submit tomorrow Review:Chapter 6 The Nature of Water Part 1 (power point slides 1-9) As partners, read successive slides to each other. On a 3x5 card, indicate that you read the slide and understood it. Assignment:Seawater Analysis Read M. Grant Gross Oceanography pages 38-40 Organize on the Analysis Graphic Read M. Grant Gross Oceanography pages 38-40 Organize on the Analysis Graphic including analysis and summary Finish tomorrow and submit Seawater Analysis

Objectives: Summarize the inorganic substances in seawater and their relative abundance. Investigate colligative properties of seawater Submit: Water, More than just Wet, It is Unique Labs:Colligative Properties of Seawater Salinity of Ocean Water Complete:Seawater Analysis from M. Grant Gross Graphic Organizer Component Questions Summary Objectives: Summarize the inorganic substances in seawater and their relative abundance. Investigate colligative properties of seawater Submit: Water, More than just Wet, It is Unique Labs:Colligative Properties of Seawater Salinity of Ocean Water Complete:Seawater Analysis from M. Grant Gross Graphic Organizer Component Questions Summary Water World3/1/2016
