3 Like commas and full stops, they mark the places where you would pause when speaking. : ;

4 Where should they go? :

5 A colon can sometimes be used to introduce lists. Example: You need the following ingredients : eggs, butter, flour, sugar and milk.

6 -Are used in dialogues. Teena: Don’t forget to lock the door. Neha: I won’t. Teena: And close all the windows.

7 Can be used before direct speech, instead of a comma. To my amazement, I heard Meena say: “I am never coming back.”
