THE SOLAR SYSTEM BY Rachael Vandermark There are 8 planets and 1 dwarf planet Pluto. The sun is at the center of the solar system.
2
SUN The sun can have spots that are different colors depending on how hot or cold it is. There are 4 different colors of the sun: blue, orange, green, and yellow. The sun is personified in many mythologies.
3
MERCURY Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It circles faster than all other planets. Mercury is smaller in diameter than the moons Ganymede and Titan.
4
VENUS Venus is a twin to Earth because they are similar. Venus is the 2nd closest to the sun and the 6th largest. Venus is named after a female god.
5
EARTH Earth is the planet we live on. When you are in space it looks all blue because Earth is mostly water. Earth is made out of mostly water.
6
MARS MM ars is the 4th planet from the sun. MM ars is the last inner planet. TT he color of Mars is a rust color.
7
THE ASTEROID BELT Asteroids are small bodies of the Solar System. The asteroids also orbit around the sun. The asteroid belt orbits around Mars and Jupiter.
8
JUPITER JJ upiter is the fifth planet from the sun. AA lso it is by far the largest planet. JJ upiter is more than twice as massive as all the other planets combined.
9
SATURN Saturn has a ring around it. It is the 6th planet from the sun. Saturn is the god of agriculture.
10
URANUS Uranus is a gas giant. Uranus has 27 moons, and it is the 7th from the sun.
11
NEPTUNE Neptune has at least 13 moons. It is one of the wildest planets in our solar system Winds can reach at least 2000 miles per hour.
12
THE DWARF PLANET PLUTO Pluto is one dwarf planet. Tiny Pluto has a rocky surface. Pluto’s moon is actually the size of Pluto.
13
Galaxy Galaxies are sprawling space systems composed of dust, gas, and countless stars. The number of Galaxies can’t be counted.
14
Comet AA Comet is an ice body that releases gas or dust. TT hey often are compared to dirt snowballs. CC omets contain dust, ice, carbon dioxide, and more.
15
UNIVERSE The universe is constantly being created and destroyed. The Universe spans diameter of over 150 billion.
16
OTHER DWARF PLANETS SS ome dwarf planets are Pluto, Eris, 2003 ElL61, and Orcus. TT here are 5 Dwarf Planets in our Solar System. TT he name of the 5 Dwarf Planets they are Ceres, Pluto, Haumea.
17
TELESCOPE Telescope is something that lets you see far away. There are a wide range of telescopes that work in different ways. They were first being used in 17 th century.
18
CONSTELLATION A constellation is a group of stars that form a pattern. There are different constellations like Lepus the hare.
19
OTHER STARS Other stars are giant, luminous spheres of plasma. There are plenty of other stars in the Milky Way.
