2  Transient osteoporosis of the hip can occur during pregnancy, although the incidence is fairly low. It is self-limiting and reversible.

3 Causes  Not well known  Hormonal  Stress-induced  Poor collagen synthesis

4 Signs and Symptoms  Progressive hip pain  Referred to the lateral thigh  Pain develops shortly before or during the last trimester  Aggravated by weight bearing  Pain subsides after delivery  Radiograph appearance returns to normal within several months after delivery

5 PT Implications  No protocol has been standardized due to lack of knowledge about the cause, but conservative care of possible fracture is indicated.
