2
polygon – a closed plane figure with at least three sides that are segments. The sides intersect only at their endpoints and no two adjacent sides are collinear.
3
Perimeter of a polygon – sum of the lengths of its sides. Area of a polygon – the number of square units the polygon encloses. Circumference– the perimeter of a circle.
4
Formulas Perimeter of a square P = 4s Perimeter of a rectangle P = 2b + 2h Circumference of a circle C = d or C = 2 r
5
Formulas Area of a square A = s 2 Area of a rectangle A = b h Area of a circle A = r 2
6
Postulates If two figures are congruent, then their areas are equal. The area of a region is the sum of the areas of its nonoverlapping parts.
7
More Formulas Area of a Triangle A = ½ b h Perimeter of a Triangle P = a + b + c Area of a parallelogram A = b h
8
More Formulas Area of a Trapezoid A = ½ h (b 1 + b 2 )
