What is it? Type one diabetes or juvenile diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults No insulin is produced with type one diabetes Occurs when the immune system attacks the Pancreas

Signs/Symptoms Extreme thirst Drowsiness Excessive urination Sudden change in vision Increased appetite Sudden weight loss Sweet, fruity odor on breath

How to control Diabetes Take insulin injections everyday Check your sugar at least 3 times a day Healthy diet Exercise

Cause of type one diabetes They still haven't discovered the cause Scientists think its most likely an autoimmune disorder

Insulin 4 different types ~ Rapid-acting ~ Regular/short acting ~ Intermediate acting ~ Long acting They all work the same but just at different paces

Insulin continued…. Characteristics Onset- length of time before insulin reaches the blood stream Peaktime- time when insulin is at max strength Duration- how long insulin continues to lower blood glucose

Myths & Facts Myth- you can’t eat any sugar or sweets Fact- you can eat what you want just don’t overdo it Myth- you get diabetes from eating too much candy or sweets Fact- type one diabetes has nothing to do with your diet, it’s in your genetics
