Utilities Electrical distribution –Collect requirements for normal, emergency and no-break power from the different accelerator and detector systems –Explore on-site and off-site distribution options (staging of voltages, network architecture including redundancy, location of substations, routing of lines) Cooling and ventilation –Collect requirements from technical systems –Define different modes of operation and standby –Establish general architecture of cooling (primary & secondary) and ventilation networks –Estimate power consumption in different modes –Study options for heat rejection and/or recovery Ph. Operation Reliability, availability, power & energy Operation –Define operational scenarios with injection, ramp, collision, turnaround time, as well as standby for FCC-hh and FCC-ee –Obtain prospective operation plans based on integrated luminosity goals at each collision energy, number of years of operation, luminosity efficiency, down times Reliability & availability –Start study with U Tampere, benchmark tool on available LHC data –First scaling to FCC Power & energy –Magnets: conduct analytical estimates based on actual accelerator lattices and magnet designs (powering circuits, cable losses, peak vs steady power) –RF: refine estimates based on progress vs conservative technology (cavity losses, RF powering chain efficiency) –Cryogenics, cooling & ventilation: iterate following technical definition of systems –Experiments: get analytical estimates –Map geographical distribution of power needs –Define heat removal and possible recovery paths Ph. Safety & environment Conventional safety –Develop safety studies in underground areas (MCA, fire containment, smoke/helium extraction, ODH, emergency access & egress) –Optimize sizing of cryogenic relief devices in two-phase & supercritical flow Radiation protection –Calculate radiation maps in and around tunnel(s) for personnel and equipment safety; estimate doses to ground water and atmosphere –Study radiological aspects of modified LHC as FCC-hh injector Environment –Prepare execution of environmental impact study Ph. Schedule Conduct first schedule exercises (Gannt) for accelerators, injectors and experiments based on available definition of technical systems –Establish unit advancement rates for different tasks and need for parallelism –Concurrent civil engineering and accelerator/detector series component manufacturing/installation –Identify risks of congestion in the production/reception testing/transport/installation chain Ph. Conclusions Substantial progress has been achieved in FCC Infrastructure & Operation studies since the First FCC Week in February 2014, concurrently with developments in accelerator design and technology Several collaborations with external partners have been set up and are now operational Some activities are about to start with arrival of fellows/students/collaborators In the second year of study, we need to home in onto reference designs of FCC-hh and FCC-ee (with possible variants) in order to refine configuration and sizing of infrastructure systems Ph.
