1 Promoting Positive Behaviour (PPB) Turnbull High School

2 What is PPB all about? n Traditional discipline activities aim to encourage positive behaviour and performance through the punishment of unacceptable activities. n However, using punishments alone can mean that pupils may under perform. n This can be the case because although punishments mean that pupils have a reason not to misbehave, they DO NOT have an incentive to perform beyond basic standards which prevent punishment.

3 What is PPB all about? n PPB activities aim to provide incentives to pupils which will encourage them to perform to the best of their abilities and not only in a way which prevents punishment. n Therefore PPB activities are intended to complement (NOT replace) punishments in order to create a comprehensive discipline system which: –discourages bad behaviour (through punishment) –encourages good behaviour (through PPB)

4 PPB in Our School n In Turnbull we have established the following PPB programmes over the past few years. –AIMING HIGH (S1 & S2) –GO4IT (S3 & S4) n These programmes now give us an opportunity to actively monitor and motivate our students as follows.
