SUBJECT: Science TOPIC: Gravity YEAR LEVEL: Grade 6 & 7 TIME DURATION: 6 Weeks

Our Wiki space consists of 4 pages. Each page offers valuable information for the task at hand. The aim is to teach students about gravity. Gravity affects all aspects of life as it is the force that keeps us from floating in mid air. Students will be given the opportunity to explore gravity and then document their findings and present it in class as a PowerPoint or YouTube presentation. This has been created as an authentic learning task as students learn from self discovery.
5
Our home page consists of a short overview of the task and provides links to the Australian curriculum as well as links to the student task, teachers information and the resource page.
6
The teachers information page provides an overview for teachers on what the task is about and provides a step by step lesson plan for the 6 week period.
7
The student task page provides information for students on what they will be doing. Students are to use the resource page and use available resources to help them complete their project.
8
The last page is the resource page. This page provides vital information for both the teacher and students. All activities, worksheets, additional helpful links and tools can be found here.

Now for the task at hand… Teachers will use the resource page and begin in week 1 by introducing and teaching the students about gravity. Teachers will need to guide their students and provide them with resources as on the resource page to enable them to complete the task. The class will be split into groups of about 4, depending on the class size. Each group is required to work together using the resources and provide a presentation in week 5 & 6. Teachers will provide students with the necessary materials to do the experiments. Once gravity has been introduced to students, teachers will take them on an excursion to The Gravity Centre, and encourage the students to explore gravity. Each group is required to document their findings on the worksheet provided in the resource section and then record a video or a photo story about gravity and their experiences with gravity and present it on PowerPoint or YouTube using the interactive whiteboard in their class.
