Accessing Digital Videos (OE DV Pilot Project) Objectives: Objectives: –Provide access to OE digital videos online –Reach general audience worldwide, including educators and students K-12, academia, scientific communities, etc. –Create opportunities for collaboration between OE staff, scientists, IT staff, and NOAA Central Library

Accessing Digital Videos (OE DV Pilot Project) Project depends on cooperation between the Library and OE staff (Select up to 30 different digital videos from the existing collections): Project depends on cooperation between the Library and OE staff (Select up to 30 different digital videos from the existing collections): –Gulf of Alaska Seamount Exploration cruise collection consists of 160 hours of Alvin footage on DV Cam tapes from 13 dives, and two one- hour 'best-of' Alvin footage on mini DV tapes from each of two legs of the cruise (Catalina M.) –Thunder Bay Expedition 2002 collection consists of 11 digital video tapes and 7 high definition digital video tapes. The footage was acquired from August 24 through September 11, 2002 within the boundaries of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Underwater Preserve located in Lake Huron near Alpena, Michigan. The total running time of all the tapes is approximately 140 hours (Jeremy W.)

Accessing Digital Videos (OE DV Pilot Project) Tool for IPs to support metadata creators: Tool for IPs to support metadata creators: –DV12 (Questionnaire to support metadata creation process - Minimum input required from the digital video contributors) –Guidelines to follow DV12 format (Description of each element) –“Vehicle”, independent from the Internet (WordPerfect, PDF, etc.) to automate the submission of DV12 form process

Accessing Digital Videos (OE DV Pilot Project) Summary: Summary: –This library approach OE DV Pilot Project uses metadata standards and metadata-making tools currently existing in the Library –During Phase I, provides access to OE DVs via NOAALINC, Library’s online catalog –During Phase II, provides Web-based access to OE DVs via Library home page/portal
