3 What is a scientific model?
Scientists use drawings, graphs, equations, 3-D structures, or words to communicate their ideas (models) to others.

4 Why is scientific modeling important?
May be too small to be seen (an atom) Inaccessible for direct visual study (the center of the Earth) Can only be studied by its affect on matter (gravity)

5 New scientific discoveries and understanding frequently depend on scientists developing scientific models and interacting with them.

6 Do Models Ever Change? Models change as new evidence or information is discovered.

7 Benefits & Limitations of Models
Easier to use Safer to use Saves money Helps you picture things in your mind Limitations Cannot include all the details Models do not behave exactly like the things they represent
