ISTE-T Standard, Description and Rationale Standard #4 Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Name of Artifact: Acceptable Use Policy Date: April 22, 2015 Course: EDUC 201 Brief Description: For this assignment, I created a PowerPoint presentation to assist in teaching a second grade class about the rules and safety precautions they need to be using when accessing the internet. Rationale: To document my understanding of ISTE-T Standard #4, Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility, I created a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the rules for using internet at school and to what devices these rules apply.

WHAT DEVICES DOES THIS APPLY TO? These guidelines apply to any and all devices that may be used to access the internet. This includes cell phones, computers, tablets, digital cameras, etc.

RULE #1: All school use of the Internet must be in support of education and research and consistent with the mission of the Perry Township Schools. This means that the only uses that are acceptable with these devices are ones that are used for educational purposes.

RULE #2: Users shall not reveal their home address or phone number or the addresses and phone numbers of others. Users must be cautious in responding to unsolicited online contact. This is very important for your safety and the safety of the other students and staff.

SCHOOL CORPORATION INTERNET RESOURCES AND ACCOUNTS MAY NOT BE USED: To access another person’s materials, information, or files without permission. To access, upload, download, distribute, or transmit pornographic, obscene, abusive, or sexually explicit language or material. To violate any local, state, or federal statute. To vandalize, damage, or disable the property of another person or organization. To violate copyright, or otherwise use another person’s intellectual property without his or her prior approval or citation. To access “chat rooms” and other forums which are devoid of any educational purpose. To subscribe to or solicit information which incurs a cost. To harass, bully or intimidate another individual.

WHEN ARE THESE RULES IN EFFECT? This Acceptable Use Policy will be in effect at any time a student is using Perry Township provided Internet or Perry Township owned devices, regardless of physical location.

WHAT CAN GET PRIVILEGES TAKEN AWAY? Malicious use of the network to develop programs that harass other users or infiltrate a computer or computing system and/or damage the software components of a computer or computing system is prohibited.
