YOUR QUESTIONS HAVE A QUESTION? So that we can move along quickly give us your question on a note card & put it in the hands of any of today’s facilitators. We will do our best to answer all of your questions before we leave today. Have a question not related to today’s topic? No problem! Let us know your question anyway & we’ll get an answer from the edTPA planning team.

PERSPECTIVE This is a pilot, it is only a pilot! edTPA is still non-consequential We are all learning (we thank you for your kindness & patience) Your questions and feedback are critical for decisions yet to be made & understanding how to implement Don’t wait to ask for help! You are not expected to toil in frustration and figure it out for yourself. Your questions and concerns are part of our learning. Just us for lunch (May 5) & give us some feedback about the process. Your input will be used to make decisions about edTPA in the future.

NEWS & UPDATES You, your cooperating teacher, school principal, and university supervisor have or will receive an email from me regarding edTPA. The email outlines some resources and key pieces of information as you move forward. This email includes the parent consent form required for each student on video. You will receive a voucher code (April) which will allow you to submit your packet to edTPA. You can continue to complete your tasks in Tk20 until you are ready to submit your materials. EdTPA will send your results directly to you. The University will also receive a copy of your results. Please let us know if you plan to join us for the upcoming edTPA development dates (at SCSU) so that we can plan for you and provide resources as you complete your tasks. Please advise you need assistance with communication with a cooperating teacher.

VIDEO RECORDING Notice of recording Talk with your cooperating teacher early in your placement about tentative dates for video recording. Review the districts policy & procedures regarding video recording. Plan for multiple recordings so you have options for submission. Talk with students about video recording purpose & intent Plan a recording time that you won’t use to allow your students to get used to having it in the classroom. Plan a date to send the notice of video home for signature & have returned prior to your first recording. Reserve university equipment early Plan some time to get familiar with the equipment before you set up in your classroom. Test in your classroom when students are NOT present. Consider angles, light, and sound. Video does NOT need to “movie quality” but the scorer will need to be able to see and hear you (and the children) when appropriate. A property pass is required for each item to leave campus. Once checked out, you are responsible for the equipment, until returned to the Office of Educational Services.
7
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBLITY You own your recordings as part of your professional work sample. This is a PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY in which the following is expected: You may use your recording for professional purposes such as in your professional portfolio, an application process for employment, or your own professional development & reflection. The notice provided permits you to use in these processes with a selected audience. You should NOT, for any reason, post, share, link, or make your video available through any web or public format (including presentations). The notice does NOT permit you to do this UNLESS you secure additional written permission from each parent/guardian, the cooperating teacher, any additional staff on video and the school district. You must also notify the Office of Educational Services PRIOR to use. The University will NOT use your video for any purpose other than evaluation of your teaching, unless we retain permission as described above including you, the candidate. Submit your returned notices to the Office of Educational Services in the envelope provided prior to the end of the semester. These will be maintained by the School of Education. You may also keep a copy for your records. Please assure that each students name is written clearly on each notice.
