1. Keep Track of Your Time It is not the responsibility of the exam monitor to advise you of the time Bring a watch

2. Read Carefully Read the directions Read the question Outline your answer before you begin writing Number your response as the question is numbered

3. No Thesis Expository writing List, Define, Identify, Describe, Explain How (something works) Why (something is the way it is)

4. Examine Graphs Expect to see graphs, charts, tables, diagrams, maps and political cartoons Examine carefully A pattern is a trend OVER TIME No outside information; use only the information that is found in the graph

5. State the obvious Sometimes the questions are difficult and the answers are simple

6. Compare or Contrast State BOTH subjects of the question in your answer

7. Give Examples or Define Your Terms More information will let the Reader know that you know what you are talking about

8. Consequence Consequences are generally a negative Results are generally positive

9. Do Not Use Contractions or Etc. Words such as I’ll, you’ll, we’ll, isn’t, and couldn’t are speaking shortcuts Etc. means that you do not know the rest or can not give an example Do not use words such as gonna, cuz Do not use texting

10. It Is What You Know Do not “think” or “believe” – no one cares
