2 What is SEMFOP-1? A management framework and the 1 st operational plan to protect the NT2 watershed and its: - forests - habitats - wildlife - biodiversity And to safeguard inhabitants in respect of: - livelihoods - culture - wellbeing

3 What is SEMFOP? A Shared Vision – the culmination of years of work with comments and suggestions from: - government - local communities - developers and sponsors - independent consultants - international financial institutions - NGO’s …………..and it is still in progress

5 Objectives of SEMFOP? Protection and rehabilitation of forest cover Biodiversity conservation, national park development, tourism, research Strengthening of WMPA staff capacity and of local authorities Livelihood improvement, poverty reduction and sustainable development Prudent management and effective use of funds

6 SEMFOP Main Operational Area Nam Theun 2 Watershed Area: Nakai-Nam Theun NBCA (3,439 km2) Nam Theun Corridor (513 km2 ) Southern Corridor (36 km2)  Total Area of about 4000 km2 (around 9 time of the reservoir area at full supply level)

7 What is WMPA? It is a unique Institution established by the Prime Ministerial Decree No. 25
