Analogy To explain or describe something. the little girls ice cream. Ex. The tree was so tall, colorful, and pretty. The big, mean, fat kid was eating

Hyperbole To exaggerate over something. Ex. The white chocolate was bright as the sun. The horse was running as fast as ligth.

Paradox Feeling to do something but then you do and then you don’t. Ex. The detective was getting closer to the robber. The big juicy apple was trying to get some ideas so it can find a way to find its kids.

Simile Comparing to things using “like” or “as”. Ex. The kid was skinny like a pole. The bird was like a pretty flower.

Metaphor Comparing to things NOT using “like” or “as”. Ex. Your friend George is just a big baby. The kids at the school are all brains.

Rhyme When to words have the same sound. Ex. Sally sold sea shells by the sea shore. Chip and Dale went to pale a pear so they can share.

Alliteration Repeating the same sound on poetry. Ex. She was pretty like if She was a dancing rose.

Irony When something happens to a person you don’t expect it to happen to. Ex. The fire mans house was on fire. The life ward was drowning.

Imagery To use all your senses. Ex. The kid smelled the tasty pie. The teacher herded the kids course at each other.

Onomatopoeia Words whose sound or suggest their meaning. Ex. Splash, ZZZZ, Boom, Hiss What about the joke: Knock-knock Who's there? Boo Boo who? Don't cry, I was only joking

Personification Giving human qualities to what is not a human. Ex. The tree was dancing like a happy human. The dog was crying while he saw someone cried.

Foreshadowing What is going to happen in the future. Ex. “The kid is going to die!” cried Sandra. “O no,” said the little girl, ‘ he is going to fall of the tree.’

Flashback An earlier scene that happens in the event. Ex. I remember the time I was at my friends house. The was thinking about how to make a flashback, until he had one and he didn’t even know.

Protagonist The main character in the story. Ex. Nicolas Cage was the main character in “50 seconds”. SpongeBob is the main character in the cartoon.

Antagonist The villain in the story. Ex. Joker was trying to kill batman. Spiderman was trying to stop the villains.
