Christmas in Holland ‘’Kerstmis’’ in Dutch
2
Surprise With Christmas, we do something named ‘surprise’. A few weeks before Christmas, we write down all the names of the family members who we’re celebrating Christmas with and we put them in a jar
3
Surprise Then, we all take a piece of paper out of the jar, and the name on the paper, is the person we’ll have to make a present for. Some people make a piece of art in which the present is hidden, like this:
4
Surprise Poems are included as well, in which we write a fun piece of text for that specific person. When Christmas arrives, all of us sit together and put all the ‘surprises’ underneath the Christmas tree.
5
Surprise Once we’re all together, we take the surprise that is meant for us, we read the poem and open it up. It’s always a lot of fun
6
Dinner Christmas dinner in Holland usually means a very comprehensive dinner, with a lot of different foods. We sit together for a couple of hours, chatting and eating.
7
Dresscode On Christmas, most families all dress very nicely and chique. There is actually no specific explanation for it, but we all do it!
8
After dinner After dinner, most families just sit together, have a nice drink and a chat. That is usually the end of the day. The next day, we have this amazing dinner again and enjoy ourselves in the evening.
