2. Introduction: 1. Our school is in session Monday through Friday. 2. There should be school on Saturdays.  Which of the above statements can be proven? Which statement is what someone believes?

3. Facts: The Basics  FACTS  Can be proven to be TRUE!  Answers the questions Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?  Can be verified (checked/proven) by using reference materials (encyclopedias, almanacs, textbooks, biographies, and other non-fiction books).  Sometimes, proving a fact is easy, just like the example at the beginning of class. You can prove that school is in session Monday through Friday because YOU attend school Monday through Friday.

4. Opinions: The Basics  OPINIONS:  May or may not be true.  What someone believes; some kind of judgment.  Based on facts or feelings.  Some contain clue words such as I believe, I feel, I think, in my judgment, most, best, should, must, better than, worst.  CAUTION: Not ALL opinions have clue words!!  Example: Science classes are great.

5. Prove it! Read the following sentences and determine if they are facts or opinions: 1. Wednesday is the fourth day of the week. 2. Girls look better in dresses than pants. 3.
