The Life Of Snakes By: Adam Eisen

 There are about 2,500 different kinds of snakes.  A few hundred snakes are poisonous.  Snakes that are harmless are part of a group called Colubridae. Milk snakes are part of this group.  Giant snakes are called Boidae such as pythons.  Snakes that are poisonous are in a group called Vipers.

 Snakes lay their eggs in the summer.  Snakes that lay eggs are called Oviperous.  Pythons, hornoses, coral snakes, milk snakes and king snakes lay eggs.  Snakes lay their eggs in rotting wood, holes in the ground and in deserted animal borrows.  Python mothers stay with their eggs but others leave.

 It takes a few days to several weeks for eggs to hatch.  Baby snakes have an egg tooth to cut through their shell.

 Garter snakes, Boas, water snakes and pit vipers keep their eggs in their bodies.  The babies hatch in their moms bodies and come out alive.  Ohvohvy Vipuhrus are snakes that have live babies.

 Baby snakes are eaten by a lot of animals.  Birds eat snakes.  Snakes eat other snakes.  Their biggest threat is humans because we destroy their habitats and we kill them.

 Anacondas are the biggest of all snakes.  King cobras are the largest of all of all snakes.

 Snakes have been alive since the time of dinosaurs. Be kind to them because we want to keep them alive for a lot longer.
