Current Signaling Technology Nationally only 14% of signaling installations have not exceeded their design life. Obsolete technology. Non availability of spares. Maintenance Challenges. Phase 1 Gauteng Re-signaling commenced. Re-signaling (interlocking) of 15 installations with modern technology. Each installation covering a specific track section with its stations. Install interim solution on Midway – Lenz sections as priority posing major accident risk Start construction of Nerve Centre. Design, install and testing of first group of new interlocking Commence training of new signaling system, staff and specialists. Phase 2 Gauteng Re-signaling – rest of Gauteng to commence before end of the year. Gauteng Project duration = 7 Years – Total investment = R4 bn. Gauteng Re-Signaling Deliverables / Benefits
