Emotionally

Foundational Verse Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2

It’s impossible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature” Peter Scazzero So we must learn to deal with how we feel!  Why we must manage our emotions  How we can manage our emotions

Why? Our feelings are often unreliable “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Jeremiah 17:9

Our feelings can be manipulated A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. Proverbs 25:28 Why?

To Please God So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. Romans 8:6-8 Why?

To be successful A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber. Proverbs 24:33-34 Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end. Proverbs 5:23—The Message Why?

How? We must name it  Anger (fury, hostility, irritability, annoyance)  Sadness (grief, self-pity, despair, dejection, loneliness)  Fear (anxiety, edginess, nervousness, fright, terror, apprehension)  Enjoyment (joy, relief, contentment, delight, thrill, euphoria, ecstasy)

Emotions  Love (acceptance, trust, devotion, adoration)  Surprise (shock, amazement, wonder)  Disgust (contempt, scorn, aversion, distaste, revulsion)  Shame (guilt, remorse, humiliation, embarrassment, chagrin)

Hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught. Psalms 55:2 Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? Psalms 43:5a Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks. Psalms 137:9 You deserve honesty from the heart; yes, utter sincerity and truthfulness. Oh, give me this wisdom. Psalms 51:6 Emotions in Psalms

We must submit our emotions to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When we allow our emotions to call the shots, we are saying our emotions are God. But when we submit our emotions to Jesus Christ, we are saying "JESUS IS LORD!" How?

How can I be quick to hear and slow to speak? How can I be angry and not sin? How can I watch my heart above all things? How can I speak the truth in love? How can I be a true peacemaker? How can I get rid of bitterness, rage and envy?
