3 © Unitec New Zealand3 Getting started - Gantt Chart in MSP 2013 1.Open project, go to new, select templates, select commercial construction This going to your template, save give file a name and date. Also “Getting started” is a good intro to process. 2.Set start date. Go to Project tab, Project information, enter start date, and OK 3.Format timeline to suit project time requirements, use days, months, year. 4.Set up calendar to show non working time

4 >>FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT 5.Insert task bar ID and labels using Gantt chart wizard or go to Format, then select Format (below paint pot.) select bar,select text, label bar to suit, suggested start date LHS, Task name RHS, above and below can be any label required but be careful as adding either of these spaces adds lines to the overall chart presentation. Take care with labels inside task bars as they may not be readable due to bar colour. Black will not show up very well on red or blue. Change bar colour or label colour to suit. 6. Tick Project Summary Task this creates a task at the top of the programme which summarises at the total project duration. Tick, Summary Task this enable deplay of summary task bars. >>DEPARTMENT TITLE EDIT IN HEADER & FOOTER

6 >>FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT Reason for inserting GCW Go to File Open options Select customise ribbon Go to popular commands Select All Commands from drop down menu Select Gantt Chart Wizard Go to main tabs select where you wish GCW to be positioned in top ribbon. Click add click ok and leave Insert Gantt Chart Wizard (GCW) >>DEPARTMENT OF CONTRUCTION

7 >>FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT Find GCW on top ribbon and open 6.As there are many ways charts can be presented and a equal amount of information you may wish to display in your final presentation the tutor will walk you through the required set up for this exercise. Note this set up is all that is required to do the baseline programme. To do resources, filtering, cash flows, acceleration etc and all other application of MSP requires additional information and is covered in other tutorials.
