Description Meditation involves the exercising of an individuals attention. To ensure success while meditating is concentration, it needs to be highly developed to control the natural tendency of the brain to flow one idea to another, and to eliminate all random thoughts that continually appear in the mind. To aid concentration people focus their thoughts on one specific thing or chant nonsense words. It is important to practise during a quiet time of day and not immediately after a very active state.

How it improves performance It's commonly said that sports are 90 percent mental and only 10 percent physical. A lack of focus can result in a missed three-point shot, nerves can cause a gymnast to fall out of her landing, and a momentary lapse in confidence can easily make the difference between gold and bronze.
