1 Ms. Ioanilli’s class is going on a fieldtrip… Everyone get on the bus!

2 Welcome 6 th Graders to the New England Aquarium! Located on Boston’s scenic waterfront…today we will explore over 600 species of aquatic animals and over 20,000 specimens!

3 We begin our tour on the ground level at the infamous PENGUIN EXHIBIT! Water from the exhibit comes from Boston Harbor. Penguins have been trained to wave at you with their flippers-wave back! Penguin mates wear matching bracelets…can you find the mates???

4 Meet our Southern Rockhopper Penguin Named for his ability to hop around on the steep, rocky islands where he lives with extraordinary agility. Did you know that this is the only species that will dive into the ocean feet-first? Watch him go!

5 Next, let’s explore the majestic 4 story high, circular glass ocean tank! Can you believe the tank holds over 20,000 gallons of water? Keep your eyes peeled for mammals like sharks, moray eels, fish, and turtles!

6 Look out for our Sand Tiger Shark! Although he may look ferocious…he is not dangerous to humans! He uses his sharp teeth to catch small fish, squid, crabs, and lobsters.

7 Can you spot the Giant Pacific Octopus? He uses his 8 arms to move up to 700 pounds! He can measure up to 20 feet long…yikes!

8 Be sure to check out the poisonous fish tank! Lionfish, puffers, & stonefish-watch out!

9 Moving on up…on the 2 nd floor we find the Amazon Exhibit Tropical reptiles, color changing fish, frogs, and 12-ft long eels!

10 On the top floor we find the Edge of the Sea Exhibit! This large tide pool resembles a New England habitat. Can you find sea stars, sea dragons, fish, crabs, and anemones?

11 It’s feeding time for our Green Sea Turtle Green sea turtles can be up to 5 ft long and live to be over 100 years old! Females bury hundreds of eggs on tropical beaches and return to the sea to wait for the eggs to hatch—after several months the hatchlings are born and race to the sea before they get eaten by crabs or seagulls!

12 For our last stop, we venture outside to see a fan favorite… Watch the seals frolic in & out of the water!

13 Say hello to our Northern Fur Seal! Did you know…he has the 2 nd thickest far in the animal kingdom??? He can weigh up to 600 pounds! This keeps him warm as he hunts in the cold waters of the northern Pacific.
