3 How would I describe this Career? Blasters and explosives engineers usually work with explosives for mines and construction. Specialists that prevent explosions usually work with the military or police to investigate and disable bomb-related threats. There is a large amount of on-the-job training included.

4 How you can prepare for this job Some employers require that you take a college program in civil and/or environmental engineering followed by on-the-job experience. You should also take math and science classes such as statistics and chemistry. Explosives specialists need to know how to work effectively in a team and remain calm in tense situations.

5 Sample career paths 1.Blast assistant 1. Salary: $30,000-$35,000 a year 2. Requirements: driver’s license, high school diploma 2.Lead blast foreperson 1. Salary: $45,000-$65,000 a year 2. Requirements: leadership skills and experience 3. Blast design engineer 1. Salary: $50,000-$90,000 a year 2. Requirements: engineering degree and business management experience

6 Working Conditions Explosives specialists have extremely varied sectors of employment from avalanche control to the mining industry.
