What is a Copyright? It’s the right that provides it’s holder the right to restrict unauthorized copying and reproduction of the original expression

What works are protected? Literary works Musical works Dramatic works Pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works Motion pictures and other audiovisual works Sound recordings Architectural works

Some things that CANNOT be copyrighted… Words, names, slogans or other short phrases Blank forms Works in public domain Government works, which include: Judicial opinion, local ordinances, and Administrative rulings

The Music Industry on the World Wide Web The biggest problem with copyrighted material Millions of people illegally download music, not abiding by copyright laws

Some tips for the internet… Always credit the source of your info Find out if the author of the work provides info on how to use his/her work Whenever possible, ask the owner of the work for permission and ALWAYS keep a copy of the request and a copy of the granted permission
