2 What is a Copyright? It’s the right that provides it’s holder the right to restrict unauthorized copying and reproduction of the original expression

3 What works are protected? Literary works Musical works Dramatic works Pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works Motion pictures and other audiovisual works Sound recordings Architectural works

4 Some things that CANNOT be copyrighted… Words, names, slogans or other short phrases Blank forms Works in public domain Government works, which include: Judicial opinion, local ordinances, and Administrative rulings

5 The Music Industry on the World Wide Web The biggest problem with copyrighted material Millions of people illegally download music, not abiding by copyright laws

6 Some tips for the internet… Always credit the source of your info Find out if the author of the work provides info on how to use his/her work Whenever possible, ask the owner of the work for permission and ALWAYS keep a copy of the request and a copy of the granted permission
