3. The meaning of Theatre Arts Bell #1 What do you know about theatre arts? What does theatre mean to you?

4. WHAT IS THEATRE AND DRAMA? Theatre is one of the oldest forms of art. Theatre communicates a message, more specifically than other arts. Theatre interprets life. Theatre imitates life’s experiences. A play is a basic plan for communicating with an audience.

5. What you should know about PANTOMIME Pantomime-one of the oldest art forms. Pantomime is acting without words. Do not confuse pantomime with mime;they are different. Mimes uses makeup, props, sound effects and costumes when performing a more stylized form of pantomime.

6. RULES FOR SUCCESSFUL PANTOMIMING You must organize your ideas. Pantomime must present a beginning, middle, and ending. Plan clear movements with specific details. You must exaggerate all movements and facial expressions. Think about size, weight, shape and position of the objects you use and plan accordingly.

7. Pantomime Pantomime-Acting without words;Nonverbal communication is used by facial expressions, hand gestures, and body language. Facial expressions-a nonverbal message of the face, eyes, eyebrows, mouth, lips, and chin. Gestures-upper-body movement other than facial expressions that helps the actor to express himself nonverbally. Movement-involves everything associated with the actors’ bodies, including posture, facial expressions, and all changes in positions and locations. Posture-the way an actor’s body is positioned.

8. GROUP PANTOMIME SCENES LET’S TAKE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED AND GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE! IN GROUPS OF FOUR, YOU WILL CREATE A SCENE WITH NO DIALOG. YES THAT’S RIGHT! A PANTOMIMED SCENE. BE CLEAR ON THE CHARACTERS, SETTING, BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND ENDING. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CLEAR CONFLICT AS WELL AS A CLEAR CONCLUSION. THE SCENE TIME LIMIT IS 3 MINUTES PER GROUP.
