2 Two Official System General Guidelines –Referees cover two-thirds of the ice surface –Never Climb the boards Let the puck pass you in the neutral zone. –Be inside blue line before puck crosses –Back referee watches for infractions in front of the net

3 Centre Ice Face-off Faces the timekeeper Follows direction of the puck

4 Play Moves into End Zone Is inside blue line as puck crosses

5 Neutral Zone Positioning Always no farther than ONE LINE apart from partner

6 Neutral Zone Face-off Free official follows puck

7 End Zone Face-off After puck drop, official does end zone positioning or moves towards blue line

8 Two Official System At the drop of the puck to start the game, the free official will follow the puck (Free Official Goes – FOG). This will be that official’s end. The official will take all face-offs in their own end. Both officials can call penalties, ANYWHERE on the ice Officials may change ends: –After the calling of a penalty –After the scoring of a goal –After any neutral zone faceoff

9 Two Official System On a goal, official in zone reports goal to penalty box, back official retrieves the puck and conducts the center ice face-off On a penalty, the official calling the penalty reports it to the box and the other official retrieves the puck and conducts the face-off It is important to communicate with your partner through signals and verbal communication
