2 To give clubs guidelines and ideas on how to  Conduct a successful membership drive or recruitment meeting, and  Retain current members

3  Step One–Appoint a Membership Chairperson.  Step Two–Develop a Plan with Goal(s).  Step Three–Allocate the Funds.  Step Four–Promote and Announce.

4 When recruiting people to join your club there are two options:  Invite people you know to visit/join  Canvass area businesses and invite people to visit/join

5  Bring Three You Know  Honor Professionals Day  Homecoming/Bring Them Back Meeting  Information Banquet for Groups/People the Club Supports  Information Reception for Younger People  Z-Club Youth/Parents Meeting

6 Listen Personalize Ask Record

7  Social Motivation  Professional Motivation Keep in mind…  What interested you initially in this club?  Why did you join?  Why have you remained engaged in the club?  What do you get out of being a part of this club?

8  Have brochures available  Short presentation about Zonta International  talk about projects your club does  Share what you have gained through Zonta and the ways it has influenced your life.  The invitation to join/visit should be handled according to your club’s policy for recruiting new members.

9  Personal letter or phone call  Add to newsletter list  Continue to invite to monthly meetings  Invite to projects or fund-raisers

10  They feel appreciated.  They can see that their presence makes a difference.  There is a chance for advancement.  There is opportunity for personal growth.  They receive public and private recognition.  They feel capable of handling the tasks offered.  There is a sense of belonging and teamwork.  They are involved in the process.

11 The following ten "pitfalls" lead to membership loss: Burn-Out Cool Out Keep Out Pull Out Can't Win Can't Lose No Growth No Appreciation No Fun No Substance

12  Have an Ongoing Orientation Program  Involve new members in activities or projects that make them feel useful  Give and Receive Constructive Criticism  Match Jobs with Skills  Evaluate Your club  Encourage Leadership. Provide Opportunities for Growth and Change
