2 Air Museum of Lithuania is a unique and one of the largest (195 ha) open-air ethnographic museums in Europe. It has the biggest quantity of exhibits (140 buildings and over 88 000 mobile exhibits). The museum presents the mode of life, works, and traditions of peasants and townspeople of all Lithuanian ethnographic areas: Dzūkija, Aukštaitija, Suvalkija, Žemaitija and Lithuania Minor. 3 The Užupis gallery-museum of blacksmithery has been founded by UAB „Vilniaus kalviai“ in 2004. This gallery- museum is related with a program of fine crafts, ethnographic trades and fairs, which is coordinated and supervised by Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency. 4 Exposition The Exposition tells about the history, household, traditions and trades of people of Vilnius area. Exhibitions Folk art, painting and historical exhibitions are arranged in the museum. 5 Ethnic Culture Department Collections The greatest national collections reflecting the ethnic peculiarities of the Lithuanian folk culture, peasant trades, crafts and everyday-life are stored in the Ethnic Culture Department of the National Museum of Lithuania. Currently, the collection consists of approximately 60,000 exhibits such as the objects of traditional peasant culture dating back to the end of the 19 th – the 1 st half of the 20 th centuries, wooden sculptures of the saints, memorial monument tops, domestic appliances, means of communication, furniture, work tools and clothes. 7 In 1996 at Biržuvėnai manor masters‘ house was established the ethnograpic museum. The founders of the museum are sisters Laima and Aldona Simonavičiūtės. After the 2004 fire part of exhibitors was salvaged and placed in Biržuvėnai school. In summer of 2005 the ethnographic museum was reestablished. The most important exhibitions in it are as follows: iconography, culture, education, ethnography, folk art, fragments from Lithuanian history, vilages‘ history, noblemen Gorskiai in Biržuvėnai, textile, numismatics, exile, resistance, old press, soviet period, photos of the treasures, found after the fire.
