Simple Resolution Used to express nonbinding positions of the Senate OR House to deal with internal affairs ◦- Creation of special committees Do not require action of the other chamber Do not require Presidential approval

Joint Resolution Legislative measure which requires approved by the Senate AND the House Presented to the President for approval Follows the same process/procedure as a bill Has the force of law Generally used: ◦Authorize small appropriations ◦Create commissions ◦Extend legislation that has already been drafted ◦PROPOSE AMENDMENTS 112 TH Congress Joint Resolution 41112 TH Congress Joint Resolution 41

Concurrent Resolution Legislative measure passed by both the Senate AND the House Do not need Presidential approval Do not have the force of law Often used as a means to express opinion or congratulations

Bills PUBLIC BILLS Proposes a law of general application throughout the jurisdiction in which it is proposed Becomes public law or public act This Guy: PRIVATE BILLS Helps a single individual, group of individuals, or corporate entity Currently rare
