How do you use your time? On piece of paper, estimate the amount of time you spend on each of the following: Classes Studying Sleeping Exercise/sports/clubs Family commitments Personal care/grooming Meal preparing/eating/clean up Transportation Relaxing (TV, reading, video games) Socialising/entertainment (with friends) Sum up the total for each activity and create a pie chart to see how you use your time.

Discussion Did your total exceed 24hrs? Where are you over/under estimating? Where do you think you spend most of your time? the least? Are there some worrying trends? Would you need to make some changes now that you are in the DP programme?

What you think and what actually happens may be different… Homework You are to record what you do each day for a week (today to next Wednesday) and how much time you spend doing it. At the end of each day sum up the number of hours you spend in each of the categories. This will be due in homeroom on Thursday, September 4

Task: Pick one medium and start your personal diary to help better manage your time at the start of the year! What is the first item of homework you can pencil in?

Other tips: Create a to-do list everyday as well as a monthly overview of major deadlines Break down large assignments into small, manageable tasks and set these deadlines for yourself Schedule in time for breaks Prioritise assignments according to importance and deadlines Have a buddy in each class to ensure that deadlines are not missed
