Baseline We need to start with things that are familiar. This provides a comparison for other objects. Astronomically, we are most familiar with the Earth-Moon system. The Earth-Moon system.

Compare these two pictures. Write down the features you see. What do the features tell you about the objects? Starting with the Earth.

Some Examples Round- means it is massively big. well-defined features- solid smooth features- liquid fluffy, swirly features- gas (they move too!) multiple colors- changes in temperature or composition shading- changes in altitude or composition cratering- solid surface- get surface age too. Surface age provides clues about weathering
