Today I am revising structures for answering the Scottish Text Question. So that I can get to grips with the appropriate structure and ace the exam! *paints nails emoji* I’ll know I’ve got it when: I can remember the structure I can recognise where points are awarded I can construct effective answers for the Scottish text question.

Everyone will be able to identify the commonality. Some may be able to find the commonality with reference to the extract and analyse these examples. Some may even be able to find the commonality with wider reference to the text and analyse these examples.

10 marks on text in front of them (tend to be 2,3 or 4 mark questions) 10 marks ‘go beyond’ to other texts/rest of text (final question) Range of question types allowing pupils to demonstrate understanding, analysis and evaluation of literature Final question- 10 marks- bullet points : “no requirement to write a mini essay”- not preferred in any way approx. 15 mins for final question

2 marks for identifying “commonality” e.g. theme, characterisation, techniques as identified in question 2 marks for ref. to extract given in exam 6 additional marks can be awarded for similar references to at least one other text/part of text by the writer. (3 bullets of reference + comment) Possible for candidates to score 10 out of 10.
