2. Role the Government The Japanese Government imposes less smoking restrictions than other developed countries. Reasons: They own part of the JT Tobacco Company and are hesitant to impose regulations that could decrease the sales of cigarettes. Smoking is still popular so they are reluctant to enact unpopular restrictions.

3. Role of the Parents Parents play a large role in whether their children smoke or not. If parents smoke in front of their child there is a higher risk that their child will smoke since they think it’s okay to smoke.

4. Role of Advertisers and the Media Teenagers and young adults are heavily influenced by ads. So cigarette companies promote cigarettes heavily to this age group. They want young people to believe that smoking is cool, rebellious and not so dangerous.

5. Ways to Prevent Smoking To prevent smoking there are warning labels on cigarette boxes. In Japan, warnings just say that you might get lung cancer. In America and Europe, cigarette boxes say “ Smoking kills”. In Australia and there are pictures of health consequences caused by smoking.

6. Role of Tobacco companies Tobacco companies put better ways for the body to absorb nicotine. This caused more people to get addicted. They also added filters to make people believe that the cigarettes are safer. Because less people are smoking in developed countries, tobacco companies now target consumers in developing countries.
