2 WHAT IS AN ENROLLED AGENT? Enrolled agents (EAs) are America’s tax experts. EAs are the only federally-licensed tax practitioners who both specialize in taxation and have unlimited right to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service.

3 THE ENROLLED AGENT DIFFERENCE Unlike CPAs and attorneys, all enrolled agents specialize in taxation. CPAs and attorneys are licensed by states, but EAs are federally licensed. EAs are generally unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent and the IRS offices before which they may practice. Held to a strict Code of Ethics Required to complete 72 hours of continuing education over three years.

4 HOW TO BECOME AN ENROLLED AGENT Pass a comprehensive, three-part exam covering individual tax returns; business tax returns; and representation, practice, and procedure. OR Relevant experience as an IRS employee for at least five years.

5 WHO SHOULD BECOME AN ENROLLED AGENT? Someone who is: Intelligent Organized Detail-Oriented Eager to Learn Interested in a flexible schedule while earning a high salary Aspiring to become an entrepreneur Looking for a recession-proof career

6 MARKET FOR ENROLLED AGENTS Two things in life are certain: Death and Taxes! The Tax Code is changing constantly. Enrolled agents are competent, knowledgeable tax professionals. EAs are needed at: - Small and large public accounting firms - Law firms - Corporate accounting departments - State Departments of Revenue - Investment firms - Banks -Private practice Recession-proof Year-round Competitive salary

7 THE ENROLLED AGENT EXAM Administered by the Department of the Treasury in conjunction with Prometric. Tested in the following areas: - Individuals - Businesses - Representation, Practice, and Procedure Exams will be offered May 1 - February 28. There is no testing in March or April. $109 per part Each section of the exam has about 100 questions. -exam includes three types of multiple choice questions: direct question, incomplete sentence and all of the following except
