2  Also known as the Coercive Acts, they were created to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party  Were a series of 5 laws intended to punish the colonists:  The Boston Port Act-closed the Boston Harbor until all of the tea that was thrown into the harbor was paid for by the people of Boston, went into effect on June 1, 1774  The Administration of Justice Act-allowed British officials to not be involved with criminal prosecution in MA, went into effect on May 20, 1774

3  The Massachusetts Government Act-turned the governor's council and the democratic town meetings into one body, restricting MA, went into effect on May 20, 1774  The Quartering Act-required colonists to provide housing to British troops, went into effect on March 24, 1774  The Quebec Act- the freedom of worship was extended to Catholics in Canada, went into effect on May 20, 1774

4  One of the more major causes of the American Revolution  The colonists were afraid of having soldiers in their homes after the Boston Massacre, which is when they decided that they had to do something about these laws  United the colonies against England out of anger  Colonies joined together in boycotting British goods, which prepared them for their war with the British to declare their independence
